'Endhiran, The Robot' Premiere

Superstar Rajinikanth played host Monday night as he invited the best of Bollywood to see his latest movie Endhiran, the Robot. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who wore Manish Malhotra, was of course there with her hubby Abhishek, director and producer Karan Johar joined them, as did Aamir Khan. Rajinikanth mingled with the guests at the PVR in Juhu and everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Endhiran, the Robot is a Tamil language action-packed science-fiction flick co-written and directed by S. Shankar, produced by first-time producer Kalanidhi Maran, and composed by international music maestro A.R. Rahman.

It took about two years to film Robot and it was shot at various locations, including Chennai, Goa, Pune and Mumbai. The romantic film also took the cast and crew to international destinations like Brazil, the United States and Peru where Ash and Rajinikanth shot a number in front of the historic site Machu Picchu.

Rajinikanth portrays both Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti - he even takes on a third role! Aishwarya plays a woman named Sana, while Danny Denzongpa portrays Bohra. Other actors include Karunas, Santhanam and Kalabhavan Mani.

The flick tells the story of Dr. Vaseegaran, a scientist who specializes in robotics. In true Frankenstein fashion, Dr. Vaseegaran creates a robot that looks like a human. He names the robot Chitti and introduces it to other humans, which obviously leads to some very funny situations!

Robo in Machu Picchu

Another mountain range is making its debut Friday as the backdrop for a song-and-dance sequence in an Indian movie—if it made the editor’s cut, that is: the Andes in Peru, and the ruins of the Inca city of Machu Picchu located high amid those mountains.

Sun Pictures & Kalanithi Maran

Strictly speaking, we’re talking Kollywood not Bollywood, even if the latter has become the catch-all term overseas for all movies coming out of India. “Endhiran” (Robot), in which Tamil megastar Rajnikanth plays a scientist and a robot and which opens Friday, flew its stars to Peru to film one of the music scenes.

Fernando Astete, director of the Machu Picchu Archaelogical Park, recalled the shoot approximately two years ago, remembering in particular a younger female star (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, we’re assuming), and an older white-haired woman who did the actual singing.

“We have seen some Indian movies here,” said Mr. Astete. “It was the quintessential music that we see in those movies, with the man falling in love and courting the woman. There were also some Brazilian elements all mixed in. It was something quite exotic.”

Karmic Reason For Endiran Success

The hottest and latest hit of the season is ‘Robo’ and if all goes well then it might be touching the blockbuster grade as well. While some are attributing it to Shankar’s technical wizardry, some are giving the credit to Aishwarya Bachchan’s beauty.

Then, there are those who are giving part credit to A R Rahman and his music. But reliable sources say that it is not them and the key player for this is Rajinikanth himself. Apparently, the element of divine intervention seems to be the key as per few scientific observers which comes as a surprise.

They say that it is Rajini’s charity works and his human touch with everyone that has played a key role. To be honest, many feel that the film is not that great but it is the gentle push from divine forces due to his karmic activity that has pushed the film to this kind of response. What are your thoughts on this folks..

Robo Creating World Records

Finally, Rajinikanth's Enthiran graced theatres on Friday. And this robot is really different from his earlier avatars!

Enthiran seems to be the biggest Diwali gift for any Rajni fan; thousands of people have been lingering around cinema theatres today to catch the earliest possible show of their super hero. Many of these people are coming to watch the film for the second or third time already!

In fact, the celebrations began at 5 a.m. on Friday when many fans prayed and performed 'paal abisekham' on Rajni's posters. The fans also danced their way through theatres to celebrate the release of the film.

The latest buzz is that the film grossed Rs. 5 crores in its opening day in Tamil Nadu. Reports confirm that the film had 100% opening all over India, with all shows booked for the entire weekend.
